Instructional Minors - Player/Coach Pitch Division

SPECIAL RULES

The Instructional Minors division of Taconic Little League will follow the playing rules described below. These rules are modifications or additions to the rules in the official Little League Rule book. If not covered here please refer to the LL Rule Book.

1. Game will be played with an RIF5/Level 5 or similar ball.

2. Games shall consist of Six (6) innings OR a Time Limit of 90 minutes whichever comes first.

3. No Win/Loss records will be maintained.

4. Continuous Batting Order – All players on the team roster present for the game shall bat.

5. Each half-inning ends for the team that is batting when the defensive team gets three outs, the team at bat scores five runs or the team bats through the entire order. The batting order may be reversed each inning, or started in the middle. The Manager shall rotate (change) the batting orders from game to game.

6. Minimum Play Rule – All players must play a minimum of 6 defensive outs. The Catcher’s position should be played regardless of player or coach pitch. Managers should rotate the players defensively and attempt to balance innings between the infield positions and outfield positions.

7. No stealing or advancing on passed balls/wild pitch.

8. Runners may advance more than one base on a good hit. E.g., if a batted ball is hit into the outfield, batter/ runners may continue to advance until the ball is returned to the infield. Runners should be held to the base they were attempting once the ball reaches the infield. Keep players in control while running the bases; be aware of the location of the baseball at all times.

9. There will be NO base advancements allowed on an overthrow. The intent is to encourage the children to learn how and where the proper throw should be made.

10. The season will start with coach pitch with the intent of having kids pitch by mid-season. Both team managers must agree that there will be player pitching prior to the start of the game. The coach on the mound with the player-pitcher will call balls and strikes. 3 strikes, called or swinging, and the batter is out. There are no walks. Once 4 balls is reached the coach takes over pitching until the batter puts the ball into play or strikes out.

11. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE A BAT OTHER THAN THE BATTER.

12. All Volunteers (on the field or in the dugout) must be “Registered Volunteers” and approved by the League.
